My self reflection in Adult Education
Let me show you my learning journey in adult education. Enjoy!
Reflection of mini-course
What I've learnt during working the mini course :)
I’ve learnt about the perspective of “learners”.
Understanding our prospective learners is really important to plan the course. What I meaning is that, my perspective was always to be a “teacher or educator”. So, there were some things that as I think that is really “natural” or “taken for granted”. Even including the cultural things as well. There are some points that what I’ve learnt during making this course. For example, While I was searching the learning materials for our learners, I realized that the material that I’ve found is quite hard and fast to learn for learners who studies English language is the first time. So, it was unsuitable. Then I've watched other types of videos, then I met my A-HA moment of preparing learning material. Rather than something "general", it's better to share the video which reflects our learners' cultural background and has focus on Glasgow. So, we chose the video that the boy who is from arabic country but currently live in glasgow. And while we’re searching the photos to make our course, there was a picture that the woman wears shorts, but one of our teammates told me that it’s not appropriate to our prospective learners ; especially for people who are come from arabian country, because of the cultural differences, our learners could think that it is not proper for them. Also I found that we can make a “practical” aspects of educational programme based on our targets. So we included some gloswegian accents and dialects, also we added some “real” pictures and locations in Glasgow. It was added to the learning materials considering the environment that learners would actually have. I think this was a wonderful experience to make “learner-centered” educational programme by my own, and considering various perspectives of making education. It was a really practical experience for me!
